Mt Buller’s Boggy Creek Reservoir is undergoing urgent repairs after the dam’s liner was damaged during winter.
It is suspected the damage was caused when access ladders affixed to the side of the dam were dislodged, tearing the liner
Divers have identified the damaged areas and repairs will begin on Saturday (2 November). The repairs can be carried out underwater. The remaining ladders will be removed to prevent further damage.
ARV has activated its dam safety management plan, and is working with engineers, DEECA and Goulburn Valley Water to ensure the long-term viability of the dam and continuity of water supply for the resort.
The area around the dam is being monitored for any environmental impact.
Water quality has not been affected.
Sections of trails below the dam will be closed while the repairs are carried out to ensure the safety of guests, staff and the community.
ARV will work with water agencies and Government to ensure the dam can be refilled as soon as possible.
The issue was identified in October when discharge from the dam’s leakage system started to increase. The system is designed to capture and expel any water that seeps between the liner and dam wall, protecting the integrity of the dam. ARV staff monitor this system, enabling the leaks to be found.
ARV will provide stakeholders with regular updates as the repairs are completed. For further information, contact info.mtbuller@alpineresorts.vic.gov.au
