Fire & Emergency Management Plans
Resort Management has an obligation to develop the Mountains Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) and the development, maintenance and three yearly review of the Mountains Emergency Management Plan (MEMP).
Within a tiered emergency management framework of state, regional and municipal plans, the Resort Management prepares and implements a range of plans, policies and procedures that are directly involved in, or impact on, fire management.
This includes the formation of a Mountains Fire Management Planning Committee (MFMPC) which acts as a subcommittee to the MEMPC and the preparation of a Mountains Fire Management Plan (MFMP).
A key responsibility of the Mount Buller and Mount Stirling MFMPC is the development of a Mountains Fire Management Plan (MFMP) on behalf of the Mount Buller and Mount Stirling Mountains Emergency Management Planning Committee for considered endorsement by the Mount Buller and Mount Stirling Alpine Resort Management.
This plan, which aligns with the Hume Regional Strategic Fire Management Plan 2011-2021, describes how regional authorities, Resort Managements, fire agencies and other relevant organisations can work together to effectively anticipate, respond to and recover from bushfire events affecting Mount Buller and Mount Stirling Alpine Resort areas.
The Mount Buller and Mount Stirling Municipal Fire Management Plan forms a subplan to the Mountains Emergency Management Pan.
Section 5 of the Alpine Resorts (Management) Act 1997 deems the Resort Management to be a municipality for the purposes of the Emergency Management Act 1986. Under these obligations the Resort Management has a key role in prevention and mitigation activities that reduce and minimise the effects of emergencies when they occur.
